Hello,
Wow, it's been a long while... so I'm finally utilizing this area, updating you on what I've been up to. These past 2 years have been laborious and indeed exciting!
1. I'm onto my first teaching gig, alongside HimaB and Nicole, Ethan and em16, for the 2008 season of MIX NYC's video production workshop entitled "A Different Take." This is free media workshop open to all LBGT, all aspects of digital video production including scriptwriting, directing, shooting, sound track design, editing, & distribution. The participants will also learn research and interview techniques necessary to produce short videos. This intensive, free five-month course includes field trips, guest artists and industry professionals in order to provide a complete, hands-on education. Stay tuned on the rest of this posting and possibly fb updates!
Several emerging and established queer filmmakers & film-industry professionals will be guest speakers, including: Barbara Hammer, Rodney Evans, Desi del Valle, Jonathan Caouette, Irene Villasenor, & Martha Colburn. Five filmmakers/media makers will assist 12 students in achieving their artistic visions. The collection of films will have their world premiere at MIX NYC's Queer Experimental Film Festival in Oct. 2008.
2. Co-collaborating with creative partners on our first media company, 3MinutesInHeaven (3MIH), creating sexy edgy shorts for queers, created by queers. Three shorts later, and one interactive exhibit, we're on a roll, looking into festivals, and exhibits focusing on the intercactive body. Give a holla if you have a lead. (thanks)
3. Focusing on creating more audio pieces, remixxing samplings from my record collection. (This is one collection I will not purge...there are some prized LPs)
4. Following lambs, sheep, alpacas, and other wooly friends along the way. This is a work in progress.
5. Purging, resurging and re-purging. Giving away stuff. Using only what I need. Refreshing and uplifting. Try it - you might like it.

- MULTIMEDIA MIXER: Barbara Malaran My artwork takes on an experimental view of travel, migration and assimilation, most specifically with locating ties to imagining homelands, occupational and gender identities, to manipulating time working against memory decay. Such touchstones are influential, emerging with stories about my family’s Philippine heritage, adopting national pride post WW2, observing immigrant populations into the US while forever reinterpreting family stories, desires and locations which no longer exist; rather through storytelling and fading photographs, as all share a remarkable sense of place among generations of newcomers. Often these themes have been personally explored through a variety of mediums, from family home movie archives I shot starting when I was 10, to learning audio and video design, as a study in memory. Coming out of these mediums, my works evolved into creating interactive video installations on the stories of a body in transit, moving away from home and self.
